Alan has been involved in experience design since he was six, when he first began presenting neighborhood circuses, plays and haunted houses. Much later he spent five years at Bill Graham Presents doing front and backstage production, design and promotion work. These activities culminated in a B.A. degree in arts management. As the founding director of The LAB, a SF artists organization now in its 26th year, Alan produced art, design, literary and performance events, designed sets, lights, sound, exhibitions, posters, and Hypercard stacks. He got serious about interface UXD in 1993 when he co-founded Modia, an educational CDROM publisher. In 1994 he worked on migrating the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Gopher site to the brand new shiny WWW. In 1997, Alan built a 45-person user experience team at Xpedior, followed by stints at Advisor Software and PeopleSoft/Oracle. At the present time, Alan is a Senior Product Designer at Autodesk where he contributes to the design of the common UI platform for Autodesk Suites products.
